How to Apply Mascara Perfectly with Detailed Steps and Pictures

Mascara application is one of the basic steps for a complete and perfect eye makeup. We usually do not pay much attention to the procedure that we follow every time we apply mascara on the eye lashes. However we must not forget that, there’s always a perfect procedure for everything in the world of makeup including as to how to apply mascara.

Keeping this in mind, I have devised this Step by step tutorial on how to apply mascara.

Things you will need:

1. Your favourite mascara. Here I am using Maybelline New York Volum Express Hyper Curl Mascara.
2. Primer for eyes (optional), Concealer (Must) and a Foundation (optional).
3. Eye shadow (Of your choice)
4. Eye liner
5. Lash Comb
6. Lash Curler

Step 1:

Start off on clean eyes with the application of primer, concealer and foundation. Here we are using just a concealer for temporary makeup. However if you seek long lasting makeup, then a primer along with a concealer and foundation are important. Follow this with your Eye shadow application. Here we are using a normal mono bronze shade since we are concentrating mainly on the mascara application. However the shadow application and choice of colour palette is complete yours to decide.

Step 2:

Follow the eye shadow application with eye liner application. Thick or a thin line totally depends on the type of eye makeup you are going for.

Step 3:

Dip the mascara brush into the mascara bottle 2-4 times to coat the bristles with mascara properly. Close your eyes and start applying the mascara from the roots to the tips of the upper lash line neatly.

Now follow the same steps by opening your eyes and applying the mascara from the roots to the tips.

Do the same for the lower lashes.

Step 4:

Take the lash comb and comb out the excess mascara clumps on the lashes.

A. Start with closed eyes from roots to tips and also comb the lower lash line.

B. Open your eyes and carefully comb from the roots to the tip of the lashes.

Step5:

Repeat the mascara application.

Step 6:

Let the mascara dry for 2 minutes. Follow it with the lash curler for added curling. This is optional but you may do this if you are not satisfied with the volume of the curl your mascara gives you. Always clean the rubber pads after using the lash curler. Do not use a curler on non-dry sticky mascara. This may get stuck onto the curler pads and you may end up ripping your hair.

Step 6: Finished clean look.
