How to Apply Blue Eye Shadow Make Up Perfectly

blue color eye makeup
It was during the Victorian period that the blue eye shadow first got it’s prominence as an exclusive eye makeup colour!!!
As people say, history repeats itself, because a glimpse of this gorgeous eye color was noticed in 2006 when the blue eye makeup trend picked up and was almost seen everywhere be it Runways or Red Carpets.

The credit to take this trend to the next level goes to celebs like Kim Kardashion and Miley Cyrus, who made heads turn when they wore blue on their eyes. The kind of elegance and the poise they carried it with made it top the hot eyeshadow color charts globally.
And now if your one of those who are planning to sport a blue-eyed look, then it is better to keep in mind that this colour does not suit every skin tone, eye or hair colour.
Certainly, there are variations of colour that can blend with different skin tones; and you can get the perfect look provided you choose the right shade as well as the right technique to apply.
Blue eye shadow particularly looks best on women with black hair or brunette hair. Dark colours or a combination of light and dark shades goes well with the Indian skin tone that usually has black to brown eyes. If you have real dark complexion as African American women, then choose a shimmery light bluish colour.
Also, note that it is not entirely true that blue-eyed girl’s cannot wear blue eye shadow. Choosing a colour slightly darker to your blue eyes enhances your eyes to the maximum. If you wish to know more about blue eye makeup, here’s an easy tutorial that you could follow.
Tip: For people who are not good with eye shadows, they can use a simple duo toned pencil from Coloressence or use similar colours from your shadow palette to color your eyes. You can simply run a thick eyeliner kinds and smudge it a little to get the desired look.
Things you need: One shimmery light blue colour and one dark blue colour of shadow / pencil.
Step1:Use a primer on clean lids; apply foundation and a concealer to cover spots and fine lines.

Step 3:
Now take the blue coloured eye shadow and horizontally section your eyelid covering it with the colour and ending in a tail. If it is difficult to do a tail formation with the sponge applicator, you can keep a blue liner pencil handy to draw the tail extension.

Step 4:
You can achieve different Blue eye makeup looks; one way is to draw a thick lining on top or keeping it thin like I’ve kept it, which gives a more subtle look. For the lower rim, you can leave it as it is, but always apply mascara.
Your look will be something like in the picture below.

If you line up your lower lashes, then your look will be something similar to the picture below.

Tips to remember:
  • Never try to match blue shadow with your clothing because too much of blue spoils the show.
  • Keep palettes simple like how I have limited the shadow colours to two because you really cannot afford to let the colour wear over you.
  • Make sure that you use more of matte blues over the glitter and shiny blues. Glitter blues  need a lot of precision and it does not really go much with everything.
  • Mixing bright blue with hues like nude, taupe, gray, black or navy shade will make a much better combination.
  • Blend the softer darker blue colours close to the lash line and give a wash of blue blended into the dark color. The look is said to be very chic!
  • For metallic looks, you can add some metallic hues to your under brow bone area and cover the entire lid with the silvery blue. For this, you will not need the dark blue colour then.
  • Avoid going for dark lip colours as it will ruin all the hard work done to get a worthwhile blue color for the eyes. Instead stick to light nude colors.
